    This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, Position Description Number D1728000 and is part of the 109TH AW, National Guard. 




    ***** Recruitment and Relocation Incentive may be authorized up to 25% of base pay for a max of 4 years pending TAG approval 

    Relocation costs are authorized subject to provisions of the Joint Travel Regulation and an agency determination that a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move is in the Government’s best interest. 

    Superior Qualifications and Special Needs Pay-Setting Authority may be considered for this position. TAG is final approval authority for incentive programs.***** 

    As a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER, WG-4818-11, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall shop. The position oversees and directs the work of one or more employees who perform work in the Aircraft Survival Flight Equipment Repairer, WG-4818-10 occupation who are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory journey level work of the shop.

    • National Guard Membership is required. 
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. 
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. 
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. 
    • Must already be a member of the NY Air National Guard. 
    • The position requires the incumbent attend water and land survival schools, the Life Support instructor course, and the aircraft accident reporting course. 
    • Must be able to acquire and maintain a secret security clearance within 1 year of appointment. 
    • Must be qualified for, acquire, and maintain a valid drivers license for all materials handling equipment (MHE) utilized within the Life Support Function. 
    • The incumbent is subject to frequent TDY; may be required to travel aboard military aircraft. 
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. 
    Qualifications   MILITARY REQUIREMENTS :

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement . This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.     GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment). Ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE :  Must have at least 18 months of experience or training which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment. Experience reading and interpreting military manuals. Experience in supply procedures and property accountability. Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups. Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.   Education
