This position is for a Level 5 Senior Engineering Manager for a team of hardware and mechanical engineers, and technicians whose charter is to design and develop avionics equipment. The avionics developed by this team will include Inertial Navigation Systems, Mission Computers, Engine and Flight Control Computers and other various hardware products for both manned and unmanned fixed and rotary wing platforms. This role requires a dynamic leader over all aspects of product development from the proposal/bid phase, through requirements capture, design and development, qualification, certification and factory transition. This development includes both electrical and mechanical aspects of the design. This includes analog and digital sensors including gyros, accelerometers, and air data components, single board computers, power supply design, and thermal/structural design. Essential for success is the ability to develop personal networks and work across the enterprise to collaborate on workload balance and common technical solutions.
In addition to design and development activities, the L5 Senior Engineering manager is also responsible for oversight and conformance of the local lab spaces used for design verification, integrated testing, low rate initial production, and repair.
Responsibilities will require strong leadership skills, a passion for coaching and mentoring, system design and requirement capture skills and/or hardware design and implementation skills, strong writing skills, dedication to Rockwell Collins success, familiarity with hardware process and development tools, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team. Applicants should possess a customer-first attitude and have a professional, humble, and genuine demeanor. Applicants need to demonstrate good judgment of character for effective hiring, placement, and mentoring.
Daily tasks will involve providing guidance to the team in all aspects of efficient and effective design and requirement capture practices good decision making allowing the Team to meet project technical requirements, program cost and schedule performance. The role will also involve identifying more efficient means to perform the design task, effectively allocating staffing, assessing staffing demand, hiring, creating personnel development plans, giving performance reviews, participating in salary planning, and understanding and administering Rockwell Collins policies and procedures.
Must Have Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline
Ability to obtain a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. US Citizenship is required.
Strong interpersonal, team building and leadership skills
Understanding of the high level hardware design process from conception through manufacturing
Avionics hardware design
DO-254 Certification Process Hardware
Qualification Standards such as MIL STD 810/461/704 and DO-160
Electrical standards such as ARINC 429
ESA ISO / AS9100
Project management and bid/proposal skills
