Develop, test, and implement numerical algorithms for structural integrity and life prediction in user-friendly software using advanced engineering mechanics and mathematical principles. Verify numerical predictions. Ensure accuracy, precision, and consistency among high-fidelity results, reduced-order models, and legacy solutions. Employ continuum mechanics to solve fatigue and fracture problems by the finite element method. Build large solution ensembles in Abaqus using Python scripting capabilities. Utilize principles from computational geometry to discretize components. Support the development of efficient material structure-to-property relationships. Prepare written reports and manuals to document results and provide guidance for software use.

Education/Experience:

Requires a MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, or related with at least a 3.25 GPA. Requires 1-6 years of related experience. Requires experience or coursework in several of the following topics: fracture mechanics, fatigue, finite element analysis, solid continuum mechanics, probabilistic methods, mechanical behavior of engineering metals, and computer science. Requires a strong record of research accomplishments in fatigue, fracture, life prediction, and related technologies. Extensive experience with computer programming and familiarity with computational methods in engineering are required. Experience with Fortran, Python, and formal software development processes is desirable. Experience with solid mechanics and finite element analysis software is required. Experience with Abaqus is preferred. Excellent interpersonal communications skills (both oral and written) are required for interaction with senior staff, program teams, and clients. Must be able to work independently with relatively little supervision and function effectively as part of project teams. A valid/clear driver’s license is required.
